A life of exile in Vancouver, Canada

Back in London

Yuk! Thats all I have to say. Compared to all our visits overseas London always seem extremely grim compared to where we have just arrived from and today was no exception. I slept on the plane a little so I didn’t feel too bad during today.

Last Day in NYC

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

Sadly this was our last day in New York…I really do not like leaving the US and going back to the UK. I feel very sad each time. Don’s sister and niece left for Los Angeles very early in the morning before we had woken up. We went out for breakfast and a walk, then [...]

Last Night in New York

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

Our first stop this morning was to Chelsea Market near Greenwich Village. We had breakfast there, and they had a couple of nice stores to look in. We walked round the rest of the Village including Washington Square which unfortunately had been closed off for some maintenance work. Tiffany had spotted a Le Pain Quotidien [...]

More NY Sightseeing

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

First thing we did this morning was a trip up the Empire State Building. The views were as great as ever but I didn’t take so many pictures since I have been up there many times already. The staff at the building were SO miserable and aggressive, so much so I will have to write [...]

Christmas Day in NYC

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

Don went out first thing this morning to get breakfast for the two of us, a Starbucks! The first Starbucks I had on Christmas! Actually it was quite nice. Charline and Tiffany then came over and we all opened presents. We then walked to the Grand Central subway and got a train as close as [...]

Christmas Eve in NYC

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

We made an early start this morning to do a trip out to the Statue of Liberty before the tourist lines got too busy. When we got down there the lines were already quite long but we got through it quicker than expected. It was a very good trip out to the island, extremely windy [...]

Rainy Christmas

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

Ohmigosh!!! Was raining this morning, which I guess was ok since we hadn’t been experiencing to much bad weather during our trip. We went to Bryant Park and checked out their market and ice skating rink, they have done a really good job in there. We then went to have a look at Times Square [...]

Birthday in NYC

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

Today was my birthday and it was great to spend it in New York City as I did 21 years ago to this day. With Don’s sister and niece we looked at the Christmas windows in Lord and Taylor; went into the Empire State Building but wasn’t worth going up to the observatory as the [...]

Move to Manhattan

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

This morning we left Bellmore, Long Island, to get to Manhattan. There was some debate as to which way we should go but since the taxi fare would have cost us over $100 we decided going by the Long Island Railway. Luckily Howard’s brother Victor was going the same way and was able to assist [...]

Aviation Museum

Filed Under Christmas, USA | Comments Off

Today Howard took the day off work and is was just wonderful to spend some quality time with him and his son Jake. Howard took us to the Cradle of Aviation Museum which was wonderful. First it looks as though it was pretty small but then we went into another area and realized how large [...]

United Nations

Filed Under USA | Comments Off

This morning we did another trip in to New York City via the Long Island Railroad catching the 09:31 train from Bellmore to Penn, again we had a nice coffee from the deli over the road from the station. We thought we would walk from Penn to the United Nations but it was longer than [...]

Wandering round NYC

Filed Under USA | Comments Off

We didn’t see much of Howard and his family this morning as they went off to work early. We ordered a taxi to take us to Bellmore train station, the driver had very strong political views and was a little scary. Due to the taxi driver talking to us we missed the 09:31 train and [...]

Travel to New York

Filed Under USA | Comments Off

Since our flight wasn’t until noon we didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn which was much better for me. Our taxi arrived very early and even though this caught us by surprise it was a good thing as Heathrow was crazy and it was touch and go making it through security. [...]

Weekend

This was a weekend of visiting my parents and getting ready for our Christmas in New York. It was quite a stressful visit to my parents on Saturday but things seemed to have improved on Sunday.  Our friend Ed came round.  We also went out to get our hair cut. Undoubtedly we will get a [...]

Last Day of Work 2007

Filed Under Christmas, General | Comments Off

Such a good feeling that this is the last day at the office for 2007. Today a lot of people went off to the office lunch, last year there was a lot of office politics involving the event then so I thought there was no way they would drag me there. However, I did bring [...]

Freezing in Hyde Park

Filed Under Christmas | Comments Off

This morning we took a trip to Hyde Park to see the Christmas Market and Fair called Winter Wonderland. The weather was appalling and we got totally soaked and froze to death! It was good to see the fair but it wasn’t anything special…somewhere to take your kids I guess. We walked down Piccadilly, had [...]

Bad Day then Good News

Filed Under Immigration | Comments Off

Trains screwed up, pouring with rain, neighbors screaming, people being rude, can’t get around the stores….elements of a bad day in London but particularly bad when they all come at the same time. Tonight we received good news into our Inbox! Our application to migrate to Canada has been approved pending medical and criminal records [...]

World AIDS Day

Filed Under Gay, Immigration | Comments Off

Today is World AIDS Day and its a shame that the US is in the news yet again for discriminating against those who are living with it. It makes very grim reading. See the latest blog entry from Immigration Equality. One bit of good news, there is a rise in numbers of those supporting HR3337 [...]
