A life of exile in Vancouver, Canada

Meeting with Paolo

Filed Under General | Comments Off

This was another day off from work for me, and Don is always off on Monday’s anyways. This morning I went to see my parents on a quick visit. As usual I had bad problems on the trains and it took me 2 hours 15 minutes to go less than 30 miles. It really only [...]

Holland Fair

Filed Under Gay, General | Comments Off

Today we went to a Holland style fair near the Oxo Tower on the River Thames. It was ok, not many stands. Had a few of stands with food, some guy making clogs, a tent for children, and about 3 bars. We got some pancake cookies in the shape of hearts, they were rather large [...]

World Record Breaking Don and Steve

Filed Under General | Comments Off

Tonight we went an event in Trafalgar Square that tried to break a New York record for using an audience as coconut accompanists to a Monty Python song. New York had set a record at 1,789 people banging their coconut’s together and the UK beat that my several thousand [source: BBC], in fact got 5,567 [...]

Immigration Articles

Interesting story about a Lithuanian lesbian who lost her Asylum appeal case to stay in the US [source: Leonard Link]. Prominent LGBT people who support the Hilary Clinton campaign [source: Washington Blade Online]. Are they putting Hilary under pressure to support the Uniting American Families Act? POZ Magazine has an article about HIV and Immigration [...]

It certainly was an awful tragedy that so many people got killed in the VA Tech shootings yesterday. What makes this worse is the anti-gay Conservative church Westboro Baptist who said it will picket the funerals of those who was murdered [source: Towerload] – just when you thought they couldn’t sink any lower. STRIVE = [...]

Picnic in the Park

Filed Under General | Comments Off

Our friend Ed came round today and we went for a picnic and walk in Regents Park (which is going to be a venue for the 2012 Olympics). Oh my gosh, it was very hot today, at least 79F and everybody was taking advantage of the nice weather – it was as crowded as Oxford [...]

Today we took a bus down to Piccadilly Circus…yes, I took a bus! First we went to do some shopping in the Japan Center. It’s a great place with a restaurant on 1st floor; flight center, magazines, books and kitchenware on the 2nd floor; food hall with a great looking sushi take away place in [...]

Trains…

Today I took a rare day off work, my boss is off all week so I decided to give myself a day off…!! We couldn’t go see my parents this past weekend because of train disruption so I thought I would go today…however, on the way the trains weren’t really behaving themselves. I had to [...]

STRIVE & UAFA

The STRIVE (Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy) Act 2007 (Bill # HR1645) was introduced on April 3rd and its aims are quite far reaching from security, increasing immigration staff to employment verification. However, where in the act does it help LGBT families? Basically it doesn’t – see a great article from the [...]

Some articles on LGBT immigration: Found an interesting article on Uniting American Families Act on the Blue Bayou blog: Where’s the Uniting American Families Act? Warm Brothers letter to Hilary Clinton to address issues facing bi-national couples and the UAFA.

Airport Extreme Takes Off

Filed Under General | Comments Off

Going to work is difficult but after a vacation even more difficult, anyway I got through the hum-drum of it all; get up, shower, get on the tube, churn out the usual stuff, get back on the tube, arrive home. Sigh. They gave me a blog at work and I suppose I will have to [...]

Trouble Taking Off with Airport Extreme

Filed Under General | Comments Off

Today we made a quick trip to the Apple Store then walked down to the south bank, the south side of the River Thames to walk from Waterloo down to London Bridge – it was a lovely sunny day for a walk. On the way our first stop was Quizno’s opposite Embankment tube and had [...]

Film-going

We were due to go and see my parents today but we didn’t anticipate transport problems…we should have done. Every holiday season they shut down half the subway system, see picture left. They had cut the service between my parents and our place which would have meant changing 5 times to complete our journey and [...]

Simon and Christine

First today we went to the post office in Camden to send off a couple of parcels. We then went downtown to Borough Market as Don wanted some German sausages. As usual we found some other interesting things worth trying such as polish sausage and some homemade pasta. We took the subway to Tottenham Court [...]

Mr World

Filed Under General | Comments Off

Something we heard about several days after the event was the Mr World event, Warren Harvey the contestant from England above. Ms World is always given a lot of publicity but we never heard about Mr World, just from a “humor” related story on CNN International and from some gay blogs. The event wasn’t broadcast [...]

Start of Easter Break

Filed Under General | Comments Off

The university is closed today so I get to have a free day off. These days I find it difficult to take any leave as my boss never authorizes my leave slips…sigh. Don went off to work earlier than normal. I went to see a friend who I used to work with in the Foreign [...]

Neighbor Problems Continue

Filed Under General | Comments Off

Ugh! We were woke up again in the middle of the night by our ungorgeous neighbors shouting and swearing. Not something we want to hear at 3am and it lasted for 30 minutes. Don was woke up again at 5.45 by them shouting yet again. Our landlord and management company are beside themselves trying to [...]

Quite a busy day as I was launching a new website at work, some problems but nothing too stressful. The university web team did pretty well supporting me. Tonight we went round for dinner with Don’s friends in East Finchley. It was freezing coming home and probably felt worse after a warm day.

Despite the wind it was quite nice out today so we went to Regents Park to have a little picnic. Quite a few people were out but we found a nice quiet little place to eat our sandwiches. Quite surprised by a very people friendly Squirrel who came up to Don who gave it a [...]
